Crystal Gillaspy, Oboe

Crystal Gillaspy is a Toledo native who holds degrees in Music Performance and Music Education from Ohio University and Miami University. She is currently in the process of completing her doctorate in Oboe Performance from the University of Iowa. Crystal has been very fortunate to have studied privately with Andrew Parker, Michele Fiala, Andrea Ridilla, Kim Bryden, and Ann Augustin. Performing opportunities include playing with the Lima Symphony Orchestra, The Adrian Orchestra, The Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra, The Cedar Rapids The Municipal Band, and The Nolte Dance Academy.

In addition to being a talented oboist, Crystal also has several years of experience as a music educator. While in Iowa, Crystal cultivated a private oboe studio of middle and high school students who participated in area honors bands and competitions. Currently, she is teaching general music in the Benton-Carroll-Salem School District and for five years she directed band in Southeast Ohio. Under her direction, The Fort Frye Bands performed at several Ohio Music Educator's Association sponsored concert and Marching Band Adjudicated Events. In particular, she is very proud of her many students who have earned superior and excellent ratings at Solo and Ensemble Contest and who participated in honors bands and festivals.
